What I learned in the 5th Special Forces Group

Life is too short to drink bad wine.

There is nothing as under-rated as a good BM and as over-rated as bad sex.

I learned other things but this is enough for today.  The problem with people and sex is that most people don’t get enough sex to know the difference between good and bad. Most people don’t know anything about wine either.  But virtually everyone knows about BMs.

So—Why do the networks have people on shows who are shouting at each other?  Why does anyone watch network TV, listen to most radio, including NPR?  Why is American propaganda so laughable?

Is it because people are mindless? Is it because people don’t know the difference between intelligent conversation and drivel?

One does not need to be beautiful to be a great lover.  One merely needs to be great at loving and, unfortunately, everybody but your, dear reader, has given up caring about loving.

Wine, now, that has to be examined.  Values need to be set and the values need to be personal and intelligent.  We don’t just start out being good at picking wines.  So most people copy one authority or another.  Maybe they pick somebody that knows what they are talking about, maybe not.  That is not a sure-fire method for always drinking good wine.

When it comes to politics and theology the matter turns from not living well to living horribly.  Our national leadership selection program is so bad it might not be effective enough to really screw things up.  Enough people are turned off Republicans that irrational Democrats should be able to walk the bases for this one.  It is not about the merits of the candidates.  No one really knows whether the candidates have any merit.  There are statistics, figures and evidence of success.  None of these point toward the ability to lead the country.  Nobody has shown these candidates can think while they keep a 20 hour a day, 7 day a week schedule.  One of them will, indeed, preside.  Somebody else, however, is going to lead, because a vacuum is always filled.  The cacophony has not addressed this.

Turning, then, to something more individually important:  If a religious leader talks nonsense, what they say is nonsense.  Anybody that says something stupid has said a stupid thing and just because one is a revered religious leader does not make stupidity any less stupid.  American religion is worried about cults, but every denomination has fallen into thinking bad wine.  Junk theology is the norm.  The outliers are on blogs, or just haven’t entered the arena.  Why, indeed, would a competent theologian enter the sit-com arena of public religion.  I believe that a few of these folk are good folk.  Francis and Harrison seem to be alert and responsible.  Unfortunately the horses they ride are so spastic there is no reliability in following them.  They are trying to herd their constituencies, not concentrating on telling me what I need to know.

So.  Learn to pick good wine.  Learn of and from God.  Love well.

Electile dysfunction

An old joke has new importance.  The two party system is at an end.  Trump has destroyed the Republican voice in this election.  As Michael Moore said, he was never interested in being president.  Ten million people have chosen to end a choice by selecting a voice of outrage. How will Trump exit without losing?  It remains to be seen.

Neither candidate can truly be a choice.  A president who is elected while being above the law is not a choice, but she will win. She is virtually unopposed.

So the America we knew ends.  If it ever existed.  A new America waits in the wings.  What future?  Perhaps we will muddle through…

Professionalism and Expertise

Years ago folks assumed that there were professionals with an ethic, and there were experts with expertise.  In this world professionals routinely ignore their ethic and experts are folks who get to be on TV, usually for free.

As Mark Twain denied his children the vice of reading newspapers, one must avoid the vice of watching news.Reuters has a good format for following fires, arrests, murders, sports and bombing.  Just the facts in the headlines, hopefully.  Reading further is a delicate matter.

BBC, DW, UPI, AP all have a slant, a message, The Guardian, the Mail, Match, Allgemeine.  They all push an agenda.  Television has plummeted to pure trash.

Suitable blog sites seem to be able to bring light, but it is a matter of judgement, because one day jewels, the next day trash.

The Foregone Conclusion

If one were to believe the High School civics teachers one would believe that America offered each person the right to vote for a candidate.  The outward view is such.  Every person gets to cast a ballot.  What happens is that the states with the later primaries have less candidates on the ballot because certain interests have convinced those candidates they should withdraw.

There was no Rubio on the North Carolina Ballot.  There will be no candidate for president on the ballot for the General Election who is remotely qualified.  Mrs. Clinton will win because the advertising media are giving Mrs. Clinton all the positive and none of the negative news. The fact that my candidate did not win in the primary means that I must vote for a candidate I oppose or I cannot vote.

This may not be the first such election.  The earliest years are dimly remembered.  in my memory this is the first General Election in which I am not given an ethical choice.

It is unethical to vote for a person who has broken the law and scoffs at it.  It is unethical to vote for a person who is not able to make sense, make ethical decisions, offer ethical choices.

Secondly, the Vice President on either ticket does not offer a hope.  Neither are as heinous as the candidate but neither holds the possibility of rescuing the situation.  Maybe they are more optimistic about things than they seem.  Neither has made a noteworthy comment.

I am voting in this election in order to elect a governor and senator and some judges.  Hopefully their will be someone I can write in.  But the election is a foregone conclusion.  The media has decided.

It is also a forgone conclusion that they will rip her apart as soon as she is elected.  Unless she destroys the press.  I will see history made again.

Portent

Some weeks ago Governor McCrory signed a bill that was advertised as anti-LGBT.  It was said to discriminate against these abused people.  The advertised problem was making folks use certain restrooms.

The bill was much more than that small issue, and some parts of the bill might have been unfair.  Governor McCrory is fixing some things, “after feedback.”  None of the fixes have to do with things the media has been presenting.

The media hype around restrooms was is inexplicable.  The issue was not whether persons could be limited in their choice of restrooms.  The issue was whether municipalities could make independent decisions throughout the State as to which restrooms folks would use.

It might be abusive of the State to interfere is local issues at such a level of detail, but when Charlotte did such a thing, the legislature decided that dependability and uniformity of practice in the State was the higher ground.  Whether any of the members of that body could articulate such an argument is not the point, either.

So, much ado about something that wasn’t what it was said to be….

Then Bruce cancels his concert in Greensboro in protest.  Was he trying to interfere in the sovereignty of the State through this tactic of extortion? Of course. Does the state care? No. The so what was: The media made a big deal of it.  A commercial enterprise lost some money.  People did something else that night.  Political opinion was not changed.  hot words in the sports bars, perhaps.  Twitter and Facebook lit up, yadda yadda.

Then Xhamster blocks North Carolina IP addresses.  Accomplishes two things.  Diverted porn searches to other sites and it highlighted the immaturity of the business sector in its attempts to interfere with the sovereignty of the State of North Carolina.

One wonders: Would a politician in North Carolina do anything at the public behest of a pornography business? Political suicide.

Would a politician in North Carolina do anything because of public pressure by any business that concerned the subjects of race, drugs, sex, guns, alcohol or gambling? Again, political suicide.

Back room influence, of course,  but never public.

Substitutes

A blog is a substitute for academe.

A mall is a substitute for hunting gathering.

Puzzles are a substitute for inquiry.

Reading is a substitute for adventure

TV is a substitute for discourse

Radio, recordings are a substitute for song

Fitness centers are a substitute for work

Porn is a substitute for coitus

Hunt, fish, build, raze, plant, talk, sing, dance, shit, travel, swim, eat, drink, sleep.

That’s about it. Everything else is a substitute.

Global warning

Reading Chesterton one gets the early drift of uneasiness, the stiffness in the back muscles of modern thought. Something wicked this way comes, lurching toward Jerusalem, Damascus, New York and G-y Paree.

It has been long, long, long on the way.  Hidden here in the shallow South the panic dashes right by the nose of my rabbit hole.  Entertainment media plasters over the fear and blitzing editors jerk the scene to and fro with a promise of novelty unrequited.

The men and many women display lethality in an act of hostile posturing, perhaps to ward a family member, a neighbor.  Totems of regional might, Panthers, Blazers, Mighty Ducks, act as surrogates to belonging. In the know, with a new ride, the news of the game, the newest fashion, it is an unquest. Rather flight.

For all the violet display there is amazingly little violence.  It should be all out war.  For all the bare skin there is amazingly little sex. Free for all sex should be the riposte to killing.

Perhaps it is the globular, the bloated, the indulgence of whim after desperate whim. Sex and drugs and rock and roll is all my brain and body needs. Get rich, get laid, get high.

Creativity is there, but drowned by the madness, to no effect.

But, really, this is what I have done since my youth…

Entertainment

Scott Adams has a pretty good blog.  The folks that follow him are involved in entertainment.  They don’t work in entertainment but they provide snappy quips like night-time TV and they have light thoughts.

The religious threads are field with the same floaty sort of stuff.  Like Rome burns and everyone is Nero.

Are we shadows of the entertainment industry?

The situation is worrisome and folks seem to lack the capacity to take anything seriously.

Extinction

When there is no purpose for a critter the critter will become extinct.  We will not be able to maintain that species.  We determine that God has thrown things together and it is up to manage the process from that point.

This is utter bullshit. I can’t do anything about it.  I can only work on my salvation and cannot deliver any other thing.

If God desires Tigers there will be Tigers.  If there are no Tigers it is because He has created no more.

If God determines the temperatures will rise, they will rise.  If He has done so because of our covetousness then there is hope that he might turn back His course and restore our land.  If we remain covetous then we will remain in the curse until our generation is over.  He will not repent until the operation is complete.

If we return to Him He will hear us and heal our land. Our return has three components. Return to our senses, return to our land and return to our Father.

In the first component we advert to our injustice toward others.  If we justify ourselves we are left in our own resources, which will fail utterly in resolving the curse on our land and our children.  If there is anyone anywhere who lacks, and I have abundance, I am unjust.  I can’t just give my stuff away willy-nilly.  If warlords subvert the distribution of relief, they must be changed.  Either they are converted, conquered or killed.  If I battle one warlord it is not sufficient. I must battle all.  But I cannot battle from the point of covetousness, because I am then he, the warlord.

First comes my change.  Then I must enter the land.  I cannot stay away, isolating.  Then I must fall to the Father.  Only then can my work in the inheritance begin and only then will I be able to give abundance to those who lack.

This is not understood in a restricted sense but in an unrestricted.  Holding anything back holds it all.  Keeping anything as mine means that I am retaining my stolen part of the inheritance.  Unfortunately all the other charities are merely wastrels urging to gather in my stolen funds to their stolen treasuries.

I see the curse.  I know the solution. I know my way. Whether you know yours is only relevant to you.  I don’t need to work out your salvation.  Only mine.

Playing both sides

After watching August.Eighth I understood the massive media effort directed toward making Russians love Mother Russia, using Transformers and perfectly styled heroic prototypes.  Exactly as western media organizes the western opinion to adopt western heroic prototypes/

This deadly game aims at pitting whole nations against each other and against their own interests merely to turn a massive profit, which they could easily have turned using less inflammatory means.  While there are other media interests doing just that there seems to be no responsible attempt at stopping the insidious propaganda.

The common man is not equipped to discriminate properly in the flow of information.  As an American I find myself turning a blind eye at our own media.  I merely avoid what offends me, failing to seek to counter the evil of my own society.  Now I see that the evil in the other society looks to rebuilding the animosity of the could war, and that the evil of my society strives do do the same.
